Mission Statement
Mission Without Borders is an international network of Christians who journey with the poor and marginalized, bringing practical and spiritual support with hope of a better future, enabling and encouraging people to lift themselves out of poverty.
About This Cause
Mission Without Borders (MWB) is a charity journeying with the poor and marginalised in Eastern Europe, bringing practical and spiritual support in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. We have been working in this region for over 60 years, enabling children and families to lift themselves out of desperate and isolating poverty. Our focus is on building strong, long lasting relationships with families and with churches in the local communities. In 2020 we touched the lives of 35,420 people through our humanitarian relief and outreach programmes. We try to maximise the impact our projects are making and focus our spending where it is needed the most: 92 pence in every £1 raised is spent directly on our work with children and families. What makes our work special is the long-term relationships we establish with all members of the families we work with over many years. Our MWB Coordinators live in the communities we work in and have a deep understanding of and are trusted by those we serve from the smallest child to the oldest grandparent. People know that they are not alone in their struggles. We employ local staff who give us the knowledge, expertise and understanding of that community to enable us to partner with the local church and come alongside people experiencing real hardship. What We Do Our main activities are to help children thrive, provide educational support and scholarships, support families in crisis, offer emotional and spiritual support, provide humanitarian relief, and enable families to become more self-sufficient and independent through micro enterprise schemes. We work in the most vulnerable communities, including in Eastern and Western Ukraine or helping refugees in Moldova and Romania. We are especially proud of the success stories, stories of children who, given half a chance, managed to change their lives through education. A new and developing area of our work is with the elderly, disabled and vulnerable where we not only provide nutritious food but also a place to talk, to study the Bible and pray with others about their problems. We depend entirely on donations from individuals, churches, charitable trusts as well as Gifts In Kind from corporate donors. Working within national and local COVID-19 restrictions has had an impact on the delivery of the Mission’s regular activities in the last year – Afterschool Clubs, Soup kitchens, Street Mercy meals, Summer Camps and one day children’s camps – however much of this work was still able to take place as the impact figures below demonstrate.
