PEOPLE'S TRUST FOR ENDANGERED SPECIES

Mission Statement

Globally, it is estimated that between 10,000 and 100,000 species are becoming extinct every year. Each loss creates another gap in our ecosystem. As we all depend on the diversity of life for everything from medicine to water this decline is devastating for us and for future generations. There is nothing natural or inevitable about the alarming rate at which we are losing animals and their living landscapes. It is absolutely avoidable. That is why People's Trust for Endangered Species exists.

About This Cause

For nearly 50 years PTES' ground-breaking research has resulted in practical conservation action across the world, targeted where it is most needed and where it will have maximum impact. As well as the more well-known species such as lions and gorillas, we also focus on the less iconic species such as stag beetles, hedgehogs and bats. Species like these don’t attract the popular support or funding that the higher profile species do, but their decline is equally damaging. Conserving the natural world is a huge challenge, and one that no-one can achieve alone. Effective conservation can only be achieved by people working together. Scientists, local communities, landowners, the public, volunteers and partner organisations all play a part. Solutions may come in many forms, such as advising landowners on habitat management or engaging with local communities to challenge attitudes and traditions. The foundation for all of this is rigorous research, both to assess the need and urgency of the problem and to measure the impact of our work. By sharing our data and knowledge with others we ensure value for money and avoid duplication or unsustainable conservation action. This also enables us to target specific ‘gaps’ in national and international conservation, and by thoroughly understanding the problem we provide better, sustainable solutions. As a charity we receive no core funding from the government and so rely completely on donations and grants to carry our our ever-increasing work to save some of the world's most threatened animals and their wild homes. Your support today could mean the difference between survival and extinction of an entire species. Thank you!
