Mission Statement
We will work with older residents to deliver effective services and work collaboratively to achieve our vision of making a positive difference in the lives of older people in our community.
About This Cause
Age UK Hammersmith and Fulham is an independent local charity supporting older people across the borough. We provide a wide range of services to help people to maintain their independence, to reduce loneliness and isolation, and to improve health and wellbeing. We want to improve the overall quality of life of people over 50 in the borough. We support over 1,300 Hammersmith and Fulham residents each year across almost 10,000 uses of our services. At our Activity Centre we offer a holistic service, providing support, advice, food, and fitness. Our information and advice service provides invaluable support, covering housing, benefits, pensions, and more. Our digital skills training is opening new vistas to older adults, helping them overcome technophobia and providing digital life enhancing possibilities. We teach skills such as ordering shopping online, making GP appointments, and (safely) exploring the socialising opportunities that are available online. Our exercise classes provide an opportunity to socialise, improve people’s strength, flexibility, and mobility with service users reporting an enhanced life quality and better recovery after illness. Our activity classes, such as the thriving Art class, provide people with mental stimulus and relaxation as well as opportunities to meet those with similar interests. Every day we offer a two-course hot meal, which is frequently the only food a service user will eat that day. The subsidised price of £2 means people do not have to choose between heating and eating. Out in the community we offer a befriending service, providing companionship and/or practical help to those who need it. We also offer a fortnightly shopping service, which takes housebound residents to a local supermarket, enabling them to maintain their independence, and providing an opportunity to socialise.
