Mission Statement

Lifelong support for those born unable to swallow

About This Cause

Thank you for your interest in supporting TOFS. TOFS is the charity dedicated to offering lifelong support to those born with Oesophageal Atresia (OA) and Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF). We do this by supporting families, adults born with the condition, and medical professionals. We are the world’s largest English-speaking support group for OA/TOF (also known as EA/TEF in some locations) and although based in the UK, we have members in over 60 countries. Support for families ----------------------------- Having a baby born with OA/TOF can be incredibly distressing for families. We offer emotional and practical support and information to empower families and equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to provide the best possible care for their baby and throughout their life. Support for adults --------------------------- OA/TOF were once considered paediatric conditions, and it is only in recent years – with the growing cohort of adults born with these conditions – that the long-reaching implications of being born with OA/TOF are becoming more acknowledged. We have increased our focus on support for the adult OA community and will continue to do so, particularly raising their concerns amongst clinicians. Supporting medical professionals ------------------------------------------------ We often hear from professionals who have not previously encountered OA and TOF. This is hardly surprising when there are over 7000 rare diseases and a general health-care professionals, may, at best, only see a patient with OA/TOF a handful of times in their career. We develop resources that will educate and inform. TOFS aims are: --------------------- * Provide trusted information and support to OA/TOF patients regardless of age * Spread awareness of OA/TOF conditions and their implications post-repair * Facilitate peer-to-peer support and empower patients and their families to seek best outcomes. TOFS receives no support from the Government and relies completely on the fundraising efforts our supporters. Your donation can help make a huge difference to a small charity.
