Mission Statement
St Cuthbert’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care to those in County Durham with life limiting conditions. We make no charge for any of the services that we offer, ensuring hospice care is available to everyone. It costs over £2.3 million each year to keep St Cuthbert's Hospice running.
About This Cause
Set in the beautiful surroundings of the historical Park House, just outside of Durham City Centre, we provide a special kind of care for people from Durham, Chester-le-Street and Derwentside with life limiting conditions. This is called palliative care, which means that, as well as looking after our patients’ physical wellbeing, we also address emotional and spiritual needs and provide support for relatives and carers. Over 360 volunteers and 50 members of staff help to provide this care free of charge to our patients. We make no charge for our services and must raise £1 million each year through charitable donations and fundraising events in order to continue our work. Our range of services includes: A Day Hospice, providing activities, support and advice for up to 15 patients a day, four days a week. An In Patient Unit, offering round the clock care in peaceful surroundings, with each patient being given their own private room and veranda overlooking the grounds. A range of treatments and services aiming to make life as comfortable as possible for our guests, including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work and Bereavement Counselling. We have launched a new community service headed by the UK's only dementia nurse in a hospice, to raise awareness of this life limiting illness and help people in the community identify dementia and access help.
