About This Cause
The Hummingbird Project is an award winning Social Enterprise of passionate mental health practitioners, that harness lived and learned experience to give clients the tools and support to improve their emotional health and resilience. Our empathy and authenticity builds trust and achieves sustainable, positive difference for our clients and partners. Based on the beautiful North Coast in Northern Ireland, we collaborate and innovative with community and corporate partners to deliver impact throughout Northern Ireland. Since its foundation in 2016, The Hummingbird Project has been raising the bar in accountable, change making solutions in the mental health sector. Leigh Carey is the Chief Executive and the co-founder of this innovative Social Enterprise with a demonstrated history of delivering impact in the Mental Health Care industry. Leigh graduated in 2002 with a BA Communications from Edinburgh and when on to gain over 15 years experience in the CVSE sector, leading programmes that supported clients with challenging socio-economic and emotional health circumstances. Leigh founded The Hummingbird Project to be at the cutting edge of person centred, innovative solutions to emotional wellbeing resilience and recovery. Leigh’s passion for thought leadership is to ensure accountability and impact in the CVSE sector. Winner of Social Enterprise NI Leader of the year, GBEA finalist for Entrepreneur for Good, Social Enterprise UK Woman 2019 finalist, member of the WISE100, and LeX Elder. The Hummingbird Project has also recently won the 2021 Northern Ireland Social Enterprise Health & Social Care Award for services delivered to the local community during the Covid pandemic.
