Mission Statement
Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence, and character.
About This Cause
Girl Scouts of Maine is the statewide organization dedicated solely to building courage, confidence and character in girls who make the world a better place. The unparalleled leadership opportunities we provide to over 10,000 girls across Maine make Girl Scouting unique. We offer an enriched spectrum of activities that build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with over 4000 committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. The Girl Scout leadership experience is intentionally designed to change girls...to engage them in a critical thinking process related to identifying and researching issues they care about, developing community networks and creating and implementing plans to take action. Girl Scout programs deal with timely issues such as cyber-bullying and timeless problems such as wage disparities. We teach girls about self-respect and healthy living helping them to make informed choices for themselves and their families, and, in turn, making them more responsible members, and leaders of their communities. Everything that we do is focused on building girls of courage and confidence who will grow into responsible women who have the ability to think and act independently. We serve one in every seven girls in the state of Maine. We serve economically disadvantaged populations; we reach out to remote areas, and urban centers. We have special programs to serve immigrant populations, and have the ability to serve those with special needs. And, most importantly we believe that if a girl can think it, she can do it and we work hard to change long-standing notions that say otherwise.
