PSL Services/STRIVE provides people with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental health diagnoses a community of support and assistance in finding greater independence by: • Respecting the value of each individual • Initiating mutually beneficial, sustainable partnerships with business and community leaders • Creating innovative opportunities responsive to the evolving needs of individuals and families
About This Cause
STRIVE was founded in 1999 to serve young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health issues. We presently serve nearly 1,400 clients in Maine through a wide variety of hands-on programs that provide support in areas such as: • Case Management: help clients access government services, assist them in managing their personal lives and develop/implement plans for personal improvement, growth and independent living • STRIVE WorldWIDE: online programs to teach and assist young and older adults in a wide variety of life skills, such as personal safety, money management, employment, housekeeping, cooking and meal planning • Regularly scheduled supportive and entertaining events: camps, gatherings/parties and assorted other events • Programs geared to address specific needs: after school programs, home support, transitioning from high school into adult life and more The STRIVE organization has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including recently being named Greater Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit of the Year for 2020, WCSH-6/United Way “Agency of Distinction” Award, the Finance Authority Award of Maine (FAME) and specific recognition from Maine Down Syndrome Network, as well as several others.
