Mission Statement

PFLAG Portland, Maine offers compassionate peer support to the parents, families and friends of, and including, LGBTQ+ individuals through group discussion, education, advocacy and creating connections to community resources.

About This Cause

PFLAG Portland promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: SUPPORT: to cope with an evolving society EDUCATION: to enlighten and inform the public ADVOCACY: to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity. PFLAG Portland Maine has monthly peer support meetings and newsletters; hosts the Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil in November; hosts a family picnic in the summer; and joins panels and educational events throughout the year. While our chapter is based in Portland, Maine and we are most active in southern Maine events, we welcome anyone with ties to the LGBTQ+ community from anywhere in the State to join us! Our zoom meetings started during the pandemic have welcomed family members from across the state and even other states.
