Mission Statement
The South Portland Historical Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving and exhibiting items of historical significance, providing local history educational programming to school children through seniors, and illustrating the significant role that South Portland has played within the broader context of Maine and American history.
About This Cause
South Portland Historical Society operates an American history museum with free admission in Bug Light Park on the the South Portland waterfront. We maintain an Online Museum with 17,000 images available to the public. We publish a weekly history column in a local newspaper. We work to bring local history curriculum to local schools. We also offer a regular series of lectures and educational programs.
