Mission Statement
Vision: A Community where Interpersonal Violence has been replaced by Equality, Empowerment and Emotional & Physical Safety. MCVP’s Mission is: 1) to assist victims of domestic and sexual violence in the Monadnock Region through crisis intervention, peer support, court advocacy, safe housing and referral to other services and 2) to reduce the incidence and impact of domestic and sexual violence by advocating for public policies and providing education, awareness and prevention programs.
About This Cause
MCVP: Crisis and Prevention Center is a member of the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and is the only organization dedicated solely to providing intervention and prevention services to survivors and the larger community in the Monadnock Region. The Monadnock Region includes all of Cheshire County and western Hillsborough County. MCVP provides the following services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and stalking: 24-hour crisis line; walk-in services; emergency shelter; information and referral; hospital advocacy; police and court advocacy; and support groups. MCVP provides the following prevention education programming throughout the community: Care for Kids: Early Childhood Healthy Sexuality Education and Abuse Prevention The Care for Kids curriculum, designed for children ages 3-8 includes developmentally appropriate activities/messages that enhance development of children’s self-esteem, respect for self and others, rewarding human relationships and the avoidance of sexual coercion. This program is a 6-12 session program. Nurturing Healthy Sexual Development by Prevent Child Abuse Vermont The Nurturing Healthy Sexual Development training is designed to help adults better understand the sexual development of children and learn how to respond to children’s sexuality in ways that promote healthy development. This is a two-hour workshop. Sexual Harassment (Grades 5-8) Helps students distinguish between friendly and flirting versus hurtful and harassing behaviors, reviews pertinent school policies and procedures and provides tools for responding to and preventing gender based harassment. Teen Relationship Violence (Grades 9-12) Promotes healthy relationship building by introducing early warning signs of abusive behavior, exploring the impact of gender roles and stereotypes on relationships and familiarizing students with local and national resources. Sexual Assault Awareness & Risk Reduction (Grades 9-12) Reviews New Hampshire sexual assault laws, outlines the concept and construct of “consent” and presents both prevention and risk reduction efforts. Intimate Partner Violence (College) Provides higher education faculty and staff, student organizations and classes with programs on MCVP services, domestic/intimate partner violence, sexual assault and stalking.
