Mission Statement

Provide home like emergency shelter and transitional housing, and exceptional support for the homeless men, women and families in our service area.

About This Cause

My Friend's Place opened the homeless shelter in 1989. Now 30 years later, thousands of people have called My Friend's Place their home. Approximately 200 people will stay at the shelter during any given year, including 30 to 40 families with children. The majority of the families who stay at our shelter are women with children. However in recent years we have seen a large growth in the number of intact families needing shelter. My Friend's Place works closely with officials from communities within our service area to make sure that the neediest of our citizens receive the services they require to become self sufficient. Today My Friend's Place also operates four transitional housing units in Dover. These housing units are designed for homeless families who may occupy a unit for up to two years while they work to overcome obstacles to finding permanent housing. Funding from grants and governmental sources make up only 40% of the funds required to run My Friends Place. The balance comes from fund raising activities.
