Mission Statement
“Our mission is to advance recovery from addiction and addictive behaviors through offering inclusive, peer-centered recovery support services, education and advocacy for individuals and families at all stages of the recovery journey.”
About This Cause
The Second Wind Foundation has its roots in the original Turning Point Club, est. in 1992 as a place for Alcoholics Anonymous members to meet. In 1998 the Turning Point was made more inclusive. A variety of recovery groups were offered, and soon larger quarters were needed in order to handle growing demand. Use of the Turning Point continued to grow, and in 2001 we took the concept to the State House. Today 12 Recovery Centers serve communities in Vermont and neighboring states. This strong statewide system serves diverse populations on different paths to recovery. Our center is host to over 20 support meetings weekly. Autonomous groups meet as well as groups that we facilitate: Wit's End (for parents w/children who are engaging in harmful substance use), All Recovery (a platform for any substance or behavioral addiction and any path to wellness), Rewired, a group that practices techniques to retrain the neural pathways damaged during a persons substance use. Community outreach allows us to work with EMT's, police, probation, child care agencies, and homeless services to name a few. In addition our recovery coaching program assists people in building recovery capital such as housing, employment, communication skills, etc. For sustained recovery we believe in two vital ingredients: belonging and purpose. This is what we offer to a person seeking recovery. In addition to our community center we operate Willow Grove, a women’s transitional house est. 2004 to extend support to 24 hours a day for women in early recovery, a particularly vulnerable group. The goal of the program is for residents to strengthen their foundation and move toward independent, productive lives.
