PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire, 03801 United States

Mission Statement

The Birchtree Center exists to promote independence, engaging relationships, and productive lives for children and youth with autism at home, at school, and in the community.

About This Cause

The Birchtree Center transforms the lives of children and youth with autism. Since the nonprofit first opened its doors in 2002, the number of students with autism in New Hampshire has increased nearly sixfold. Over that same time, Birchtree has provided over 750,000 hours of individualized programming and instruction to students with autism. Thirty-one public school districts in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts rely on Birchtree’s autism expertise. Birchtree’s autism specialists travel 30,000+ miles per year to help students in their public schools and family homes. Twenty-one school districts send students to Birchtree’s day school in Portsmouth–the only school in New Hampshire that serves students with autism exclusively. Throughout the school year, Birchtree’s admission-free workshops provide practical tips for families and educators.
