About This Cause
Future Focused: The Mount Zion Christian Schools learning program brings together the components of modern learning in a structured setting where exploration of individual interests is encouraged and innovation is celebrated. The traditional framework of our course of studies offers a scaffold that allows for authentic and engaging study of life worthy learning, yet prepares students to test well for college placement and more importantly succeed in their studies after high school. Our world has recently shifted to place where information is ubiquitous and our school reflects this change. We seek to prepare students for a world of change, an unpredictable future and to be adaptable. Adapters are forced to change. Adopters choose change. At Mount Zion we believe God’s call on us is to train up authors who will design the change. Innovation & Technology: Mount Zion was one of the first BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) schools in the nation by embracing a platform independent laptop program in 2004. Though many students will flip between a hand-held device and a laptop, depending on the purpose, the laptop is still currently the tool that allows the widest array of learning applications to be used. Creating is a common endeavor and technology is really just a tool of creation that can output a video as well as a spreadsheet analysis. Mount Zion combines a variety of methods of learning, such as direct-teaching, flipped classroom, and expeditionary and project-based learning. Students and teachers utilize cutting-edge technology through the creation of videos, websites, music, presentations, and the application of on-line educational programs. Biblical Foundation: Through rigorous instruction, small group discussions and personal reflection, students are encouraged to make their faith their own as they reach out to the community through an annual week of caring partnership with workcampNE, individual community service, and international mission trips. Biblical principles are examined in each class. Uniquely you: God made each of us unique with a unique purpose in mind. Our personality, gifts and talents are all unique. Classes are set up to recognize and honor this fact. In all full credit classes, students are working at the basic, standard or honors level. This means different assessments or grading criteria are used to challenge each student where they are. Academics: The high school program provides rigorous college-prep curriculum meeting NEASC Accreditation standards. Classes are leveled to meet the needs of individual students and offer honors credit. Mount Zion High School frequently hosts international exchange students, affording all students the opportunity to organically learn about each other’s culture and examine their own. In addition to the typical high school curricula, students at Mount Zion learn robotics and coding. English and history are combined into an innovative Humanities class, where literature, culture, and history are examined cohesively. High school students take three years of Spanish, learning through a conversational and communicative approach, based on the five Cs of world language learning. Senior students have the option to elect other language courses such as Hebrew, offered by on-site staff, or through online programs. Teamwork is essential in our post-industrial society. Mount Zion recognizes it as a key skill of life worthy learning and gives students the opportunity to practice and enhance the skill.
