Mission Statement
Help kids learn and love to read: Kids are showing up Prek, kindergarden, and 1st grade not knowing their numbers, letters, or how to read. Many have never seen a book. Our mission is to increase reading and literacy to help prepare kids to learn and be successful in life.
About This Cause
Kids these days are called Generation Z, the digital natives. Most know how to use a smart phone or tablet before they know how to read. Given the choice kids today will pick a tablet or smart phone over a book every time. One by one uses innovation and a new "Smart Ebook" technology in a grass roots effort involving schools, PTA/PTO and parents to increase reading and literacy in young children by providing books and technology in the home and in the school. The children are motivated by awards such as participation in an ice cream or pizza party. The purpose is to get parents to read to their kids for fifteen minutes each night using a special "Smart Ebook" technology. For parents who do not have internet access at home we will provide tablet computers that the children can check out and take home and in worse case scenarios we will provide printed hard back books for the children to check out and take home. All of these books are STEM related story books and come in multiple languages. We are asking for grants or donations in the amount of $5,600 per elementary school to provide a set of 150 Smart Ebooks to every child in the school for a one year period. These Smart Ebooks can be downloaded to their parents Ipad, Android Tablet or accessed on their parents computer. In addition we will provide eighty printed hard back books and ten android tablets with the books pre-loaded to be kept in the library for kids to check out who do not have internet access or a computer at home. Usually this comes down to a cost of approximately $15 per child. Very cost effective to have 150 Smart Ebooks for this price. These same books sell on Amazon for $15 each.
