Mission Statement
Granite United Way’s mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives by bringing together the caring power of communities. Granite United Way’s vision is to be the preferred way people work together to build a community that values its collective responsibility to care for each other.
About This Cause
Granite United Way is the product of six United Ways that decided that we were stronger working together. Granite United Way is made up of the former Merrimack County, Heritage, Upper Valley, North Country and Northern NH United Ways. In January 2013, Lakes Region United Way also joined Granite United Way. Collectively, Granite United Way partners with over 1,000 companies, 22,000 donors and thousands of volunteers every year to make our communities a better place. The Granite United Way footprint now spans from the Massachusetts border to the South and the Canadian border to the North. Granite United Way covers 80% of the State of New Hampshire. Granite United Way’s fundraising and fund distribution processes are local to each region. Our average gift is just around $4 a week. Our partnership with companies and our use of payroll deduction allows thousands of people to become philanthropists. Funding is awarded to individual programs by strategically investing in those that offer the greatest impact and return on investment for donors within the areas of education, income and health. By focusing on these areas, we are helping people in a new way; we are breaking negative cycles and tackling the root causes of problems to create lasting change. This process is entirely volunteer driven with teams of 8 to 20 volunteer reviewing program requests. Currently, Granite United Way funds approximately more than 200 programs and initiatives throughout the organization’s footprint in NH and Windsor County, VT. Overall, $5.34 million was invested last year in agency programs and collaborations throughout NH and VT.
