Mission Statement
Symphony New Hampshire is dedicated to making great music accessible and providing learning opportunities to enrich diverse audiences.
About This Cause
Symphony NH (SNH) was founded in 1923 by conductor and educator Clayton A. Eaton and is New Hampshire's oldest professional orchestra. SNH was known as the Nashua Symphony Orchestra until 2012. Over the years, the orchestra has soared to new artistic heights, presenting concerts that feature a variety of music and appeal to the diverse tastes of New Hampshire audiences along with community engagement and education programs for all ages. SNH performs orchestra concerts in Nashua, Manchester and Concord with additional musical and educational endeavors across the state. Our education programs have been performed for Nashua third grade students for over ten years, and for the past three years have been brought to students across the state. The orchestra’s community engagement programs, including free public concerts, talks/lectures and open rehearsals, ticket programs for underserved populations, collaborations with other non-profits, and various educational activities, have been recognized as integral to the health and strength of our community, our local economy, and the vibrancy of the areas we serve through music. SNH seeks to enrich the quality of life in New Hampshire through high-quality performances of live orchestral and choral music, and by taking a leadership role in the music-education opportunities for citizens of all ages. We feel a profound connection to our mission and recognize that these are changing times for the arts. As we look to our future, we find that there are several core values we all share: We take pride in the rich history and potential of the region. We’re passionate in our belief that music can serve as a means for improving lives – building knowledge, fostering friendships, and bringing fulfillment. We believe all musicians should be treated with respect and dignity. We seek to validate individual experience, while valuing the communal joys uniquely attainable through live music. Our core purpose is to present great live music to the public in formats that reinforce these values. Symphony NH strives to generate civic pride, serving as a cultural focal point for the citizens of New Hampshire, through which they can deepen their relationships to live classical music, to their community, and to each other. By working together with communities around the state, we can ensure that future generations will enjoy the beauty of live classical music. With our new Music Director Roger Kalia, we are looking forward to expanding our community-focused partnerships, building new relationships throughout the region, seeking opportunities to strengthen and grow this organization, and broadening our educational footprint through building online resources for at-home learning. As we look to our future, we see that Symphony NH is strong and vibrant enough to serve as a model for other ensembles throughout New Hampshire, New England, and the nation.
