Mission Statement

In 2014, Central Vermont Humane Society celebrated its 50th anniversary of providing food, shelter, socialization, training, enrichment, and adoption services for homeless, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals in Central Vermont and beyond.

About This Cause

Although its direct service area encompasses Washington and Orange Counties in Central Vermont, Central Vermont Humane Society is recognized throughout Vermont and beyond for its creative and innovative shelter programs, and its leadership in humane advocacy. While caring for the needs of stray and relinquished animals in our own service area, we also collaborate with other animal shelters and rescue groups throughout Vermont as well as in other states by accepting animal transports of adoptable animals. Nearly 70% of the animals we care for are from local Vermont communities. We also work with national animal welfare groups in helping to coordinate response to animal crises arising from natural disasters such as flooding and hurricanes. Every year, CVHS saves over 1000 animals and works to go the extra mile for every animal, providing any needed medical and/or behavioral care for animals to get them ready for their new loving home.
