BHIKSHU BUDDHIST NUN IN VIETNAMESE COMMUNITY OF OREGON is a non-profit that serve the Vietnamese community of Portland, Oregon, and surrounding suburbs.
About This Cause
Mission Statement for BBNVCO • Provide a place where local Vietnamese Americans can gather and practice the Buddhism philosophy. Community members of all type of religious backgrounds, including Catholics, Christians, or Muslims are served. • Provide a place to the local Vietnamese American seniors can participate in activities such as meditations, health educations, and English language learning. • Provide a place for local Vietnamese American youths can participate in activities such as cultural events, philanthropic events, or Vietnamese language classes. • Provide help to the local and oversea Vietnamese families who are in need of help. Past Annual Events • Summer Vietnamese language class for young Vietnamese children. Many children in our local Vietnamese community have forgotten or have never learned Vietnamese language. Our summer class taught children basic letters and words recognition, reading, writing, and speaking basic phrases. • Lunar Moon Festival is the largest children holiday in our culture. Our center organize this annual event in the late August to September time frame. It is well attended by 40 or 50 families each year. • Tet Lunar New Year is our more important holiday of the year. Our center host the annual celebration for our local community. We provide and organize the cultural and ritual events. • Fund raise to help the poor in Vietnam. Every year around March to April time frame we raise funds to go to Vietnam and help the poors and the needy. • We have a 2400 sq ft activity area that we let local community groups use as a meeting place. Some examples are local youths use to practice their cultural dances for the New Year or for the Lion Dance team to practice for their future performances. • Meditation classes are scheduled throughout the year. • Vietnamese Language Classes
