Mission Statement
To provide shelter and compassionate care while finding loving families for at-risk and homeless companion animals.
About This Cause
The Rutland County Humane Society was formed in 1959 to improve the welfare of animals in our community. We provide shelter for more than 1,300 companion animals each year, work on community programs that prevent pet over population such as feral cat trap neuter and release programs, help law enforcement with animal cruelty cases and provide education for all age levels on animal issues. We provide information and referral to individuals with animal problems or concerns on a daily basis. As the only companion animal shelter in Rutland County we take in strays, owner surrendered animals and animals whose people are in crisis. We also, when space allows, transport animals from regions of the US with high euthanasia rates and overpopulation. Each animal who arrives at RCHS is given appropriate vaccinations, a health check and many receive veterinary medical attention. RCHS operates as do most non-kill shelters, never euthanizing for space and there is no time limit for an animal to be adopted. Our board of directors is all volunteer and provides governance, professional expertise and oversight of the organizations policies.
