Mission Statement

The Mission of the Margaret Fuller House is to strengthen and empower youth, families and community residents. We work to address the economic, social and political inequities that shape the lives and futures of Cambridge area residents. Located in The Port, one of the most diverse and densely populated communities in Cambridge, the Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House (MFNH) is a catalyst for concrete and enduring change. We focus on building relationships and connecting people with opportunities that will strengthen our community, eliminate violence from our streets, and gain access to basic human service and educational needs. The MFNH has evolved to address the changing needs of the Port community and today provides needed support and services to over 12,000 constituents—many of the most vulnerable residents of Cambridge.

About This Cause

HISTORY: The Neighborhood House was founded in 1902 as a settlement House providing support and services to help immigrants assimilate into American culture. For over a century, the organization has maintained that mission and legacy. Today we work with a diverse population in The Port neighborhood of Cambridge through a variety of programs. PROGRAMS: Community Advancement Services MFNH is committed to the advancement of our community and its residents. MFNH Community Advancement programs work to provide education, resources, and information to lift individuals out of poverty and allow them to become successful and self-sustaining. In addition, deep community engagement programs occur which include the annual Port Pride Day where many hundreds celebrate and learn together. Food Services The Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House food services program provides emergency food to over 10,000 individuals and families each year. Our emergency food pantry provides low to moderate income individuals a two week supply of food twice a month. This extremely important service is growing in need as our statistics show a steady increase of individuals requiring access to affordable food. In addition, a new and expanded food pantry at our facility with increased food access programs are starting at the beginning of 2024. An annual Thanksgiving program provides food to over 550 families representing over 1200 people. Adult Enrichment Our Adult Enrichment Program provides free or low-cost programming to individuals, ages 17 and up. Our goal is to engage life-long learners with resources that will benefit their personal growth and provide them with resources that will improve their lives. We operate a community tech lab so our constituents can leverage technology to gain employment, services, and navigate the Internet. Youth Services MFNH has an array of programs that support children in the context of their families. We partner with local high schools, universities and organizations to provide a variety of educational experiences and mentorship opportunities.
