The YWCA Central Massachusetts is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
About This Cause
YWCA Central Massachusetts, founded in 1885, is the longest serving 501(c)(3) agency by, for, and about women in Central MA. The agency serves approximately 13,000 adults and youth annually from 44 cities/towns. Program participants reflect the ethnic/cultural diversity of the region, come from urban, suburban, and rural communities, and from a range of socioeconomic groups and religious backgrounds. Approximately 75% are low income. YWCA aligns its programming around the following priorities: 1) Racial justice and civil rights; 2) Empowerment and economic advancement of women and girls; and 3) Health and safety of women and girls. Through a variety of programs and services, the YWCA works to reduce disparity and inequality in health, education, income, and power, especially for women and people of color, and to empower them to achieve lasting independence and economic self sufficiency. The YWCA Central Mass provides services in four program areas: Women's Economic Empowerment (transitional housing, Young Parents Program, Girls CHOICE); Domestic Violence Services (including confidential emergency shelter); Early Education and Care (in Worcester and Westborough); and Wellness and Health Equity (fitness facility, wellness and healthy youth development programs).
