Mission Statement
The John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton is the Premier Youth Serving Agency in the City of Newton and has served its youth for more than 50 years. Recognizing that all youth are at risk, the Club inspires and enables young people to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. We develop tomorrows leaders through a kaleidoscope of opportunities, fun filled programs, and great people. The Club is a local, private, non-profit organization. The John M. About This Cause
For kids ages 6-18, the Club is a “home away from home” where they can participate in structured activities or just kick back and “be kids”. Members have freedom and the responsibility to choose what they do when they are there. Clubs operate on the principal that when given the proper tools, kids are capable of entertaining themselves in positive ways and will make good choices. We offer relationship based programming that emphasizes the values inherent in the relationships between young people, their peers, and their mentors. The Club helps youth to develop positive self-identity, educational and social competence, a sense of well being, and a moral compass by providing activities that meet the unique interests of elementary, middle, and high school youth. We instill feelings of accomplishment and self-esteem that come from the process of making choices, being involved, and developing skills. We engage members in challenging and fun activities that stimulate growth of the whole person. We have a state of the art $3 Million facility which was dedicated in the year 2000. We accomplish all of this while still maintaining an operating budget of just over $800,000. Anyone can join the Club. No one is ever denied membership if they cannot afford to pay the fee. Our annual membership dues are just $125 for the whole family, regardless of how many children there are or how often they attend. During a typical school year the Club boasts more than 800 members with 125-225 visiting us every weekday
