Since 1937, the Arlington Boys & Girls Club has provided a fun, safe, supportive place for children to learn and grow; to have ongoing relationships with caring adults; and to take part in life enhancing programs emphasizing leadership and character development, education, health and life skills and sports, fitness and recreation
About This Cause
The Arlington Boys & Girls Club’s mission is “To provide a fun, safe, supportive place for children to learn and grow; to have ongoing relationships with caring adults; and to take part in life enhancing programs emphasizing leadership, character development, education, health and life skills, sports, fitness and recreation.” The Club was established in 1937 and now serves for over 6000 youth residing from more than 30 communities. The majority of our members live in Arlington and adjacent communities of Cambridge, Medford, Belmont and Somerville. The Club has 14 full time staff and 60 part time staff. Governance is provided by a 24 member Board of Directors. The 300 members of the Corporation, serve as advocates for the Club and support our endeavors Each day more than 500 children enter our doors. For many it is a place where they can spend time with friends, learn to swim, play basketball, and get help with homework. The Club’s core program is an afterschool social recreation program for youth ages 6 to 17 .Our “Club Kids” engage in programs and activities that promote academic success, good character and citizenship and healthy lifestyles. Adult staff and volunteers provide supportive relationships by serving as positive role models, by taking an interest in their lives and by encouraging youth to become involved in programs at the Club. In addition, the Club’s state licensed preschool and after school care programs, swim classes, boating program and gym activities give children of all ages an opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence and become independent.
