About This Cause
Big Sister Association of Greater Boston (BSAGB) ignites girls’ passion and power to succeed through positive mentoring relationships with women and enrichment programs that support girls’ healthy development. Founded in 1951, we are the only Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) affiliate that combines established, research-based practices with a gender-specific lens proven to increase positive outcomes for girls. Our services are specifically tailored to the age, stage of development, and unique needs of each girl. BSAGB is one of the largest BBBSA independently-supported mentoring organizations in the country. We raise nearly 100% of our funds through private philanthropy to offer these services to girls and their families in and around Boston at no cost. In our first year, BSAGB matched six girls with mentors; 69 years later, we serve more than 4,200 girls annually. Our unique, holistic approach fosters long-lasting relationships that set girls on the path to success. This past year, Big Sister Boston received the BBBSA Nationwide Leadership Council’s 2019 Quality Award. This honor validates the significant work of our staff and volunteers to grow and deepen our impact while maintaining exceptional standards of quality and a focus on meeting the specific needs of girls.
