Mission Statement

Freedom House’s mission is to advance economic, racial and social equity in our communities through education and leadership development.

About This Cause

Freedom House’s mission is to advance economic, racial and social equity in our communities through education and leadership development. We serve Boston from Grove Hall, a culturally dynamic and historically significant neighborhood with vibrant residential, commercial, and cultural spaces. Despite its potential, our community also faces challenges such as economic disparities, access to quality education, and public safety. The median household income for Grove Hall is $28,238 with nearly 50% of families in the community living below the federal poverty line. Only 9% of those who reside in Grove Hall have earned a bachelor's degree and 56% have a high school diploma. Our expertise as a community partner increases the capacity of the education institutions who are challenged in directing their limited resources to support students to graduate and be post-secondary and career ready. We see post-secondary education as a pathway to greater economic opportunities that provide life sustaining career options. We serve nearly 1,400 students annually through Student Success Coaches, who are embedded within our partner schools, and deliver holistic programs and services to students from 9th grade through post-secondary graduation. Freedom House is uniquely positioned to lead this work because our leadership team and staff are representative of the communities we serve. Our staff is 89% identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and over 70% were students in the Boston Public School district or a one of our partner post-secondary institutions.
