Mission Statement
National Center for Jewish Film is a unique, independent nonprofit film archive, distributor, resource center & exhibitor, housing the largest collection of Jewish-content film and video in the world, outside of Israel. NCJF's priority is the preservation and restoration of rare and endangered film materials. The Center has restored more than 100 rare and orphan films that document the diversity and vibrancy of Jewish culture. NCJF is also a major distributor of Jewish content films and represents the work of 100 independent filmmakers. In all, over 250 films--restored classics and contemporary independent films--are available for public exhibition and DVD purchase. As the largest and oldest resource center for programming Jewish content film materials, NCJF is the world’s premiere resource for and about Jewish film. Each year, NCJF provides programming consultation and research assistance to approximately 7000 filmmakers, artists, educators, curators & organizations.

EIN# 04-2764044 The National Center for Jewish Film is a unique independent nonprofit film archive, distributor, programmer & exhibitor • Founded in 1976, NCJF is recognized as a world leader in the collection, restoration and exhibition of Jewish art and culture. • For more 39 years, the Center has rescued, restored and made available films that document the diversity and vibrancy of Jewish life. • The Center exclusively owns the largest collection of Jewish content film in the world, outside of Israel, with more than 15,000 reels of film. Collections include feature films, documentaries, amateur films, home movies, pre-war travelogues, silent and vaudeville films, Nazi propaganda, and institutional films. The Center’s earliest film dates from 1903. • NCJF’s priority is the preservation and restoration of rare and endangered films. The Center has restored more than 100 “orphan” films, including 44 full length Yiddish and silent feature films. The center has led the revival of Yiddish Cinema, rescuing these languishing films from oblivion. • NCJF provides programming consultation to 7,000 educators, filmmakers & curators each year. • NCJF’s film materials are used in hundreds of museum exhibitions, artworks and films around the world. • The Center is a major distributor of new films with Jewish content, representing 100 contemporary independent filmmakers from around the world. • NCJF serves as a fiscal sponsor for filmmakers. Fifteen new documentary projects are currently in produced under the Center’s nonprofit umbrella. • NCJF curates film festivals and series for a wide variety of venues. • NCJF has mounted 18 annual film festivals in its hometown of Boston. • Through its robust access, distribution, exhibition and programmatic activities, NCJF has brought its restored and new independent films to educators, artists and audiences worldwide. In all, more than 250 films are in active distribution with hundreds of public exhibition screenings each year and thousands of DVDs sold for home and classroom/library use. • The Center was an early advocate for the inclusion of film in the study of history and culture and for the historically accurate use of visual materials. • The Center has received consistent grant support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Film Preservation Foundation, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. NCJF enjoys an ongoing working relationship with the Library of Congress, as well as national archives around the world. • NCJF has received numerous honors, including a 2013 award from the Boston Society of Film Critics.
