About This Cause
COVID-19 has undoubtedly created a challenging and uncertain time for you and your family, and for us. To help aid the nonprofit community, Benevity is generously matching all donations (up to $300,000) made to Agassiz Baldwin Community. If you are in a position to give, contributions of any size are immensely appreciated. All donations made through Benevity will help us continue to pay our teachers and cover costs while we’re closed, and support new scholarships for families experiencing the impacts of COVID-19. As many businesses have been forced to close and jobs remain uncertain, we anticipate a significantly increased need for scholarships in our community. We remain committed to keeping people in our programs regardless of their income or circumstance during this unprecedented time. Your contributions will help our neighbors who need it most, and help us keep Agassiz Baldwin Community the strong, supportive environment we continuously strive to be. Thank you for your support. More about us: Agassiz Baldwin Community provides a diverse range of high-quality programs and services for all ages in the Cambridge community, with a focus on creativity, culture, and community. These include: -Children's Programs: ---Play groups for toddlers and young children ---Kindergarten Afterschool ---1st-5th Grade Afterschool ---Outback Summer Program ---A Paid Youth Employment Program -Maud Morgan Arts Center: an art facility for students of all ages -Agassiz Neighborhood Council: a forum for community discussion and advocacy -Living Well Network: delivers programs fostering an engaged 55+ community -Fay Chandler Gallery: exhibits work by local artists, including professionals, community members, and youth. Recent Achievements and Priorities: Equity & Access Scholarships: To fulfill our mission of welcoming and including everyone, we must continue our efforts to serve families that reflect Cambridge’s socioeconomic diversity. Providing scholarships is an essential piece of this effort. Scholarships provide a much-needed resource for children and families who need quality out-of-school-time programming but cannot afford tuition and fees, while also creating a more diverse learning community for all children and participants in our programs. Mental Health Access & “Strengthening Families Together” In June 2019, ABC was awarded a Community Benefits grant from the City of Cambridge for the “Strengthening Families Together Project” in collaboration with the Cambridge Community Center and East End House. It will address the unique mental health needs of low-income children and families through increased focus on positive social-emotional development, therapeutic services, and family support. Anti-Racism: The staff at ABC have been working on anti-racism for several years and plan to continue this work. ABC has a dedicated committee of senior staff assigned to leading this effort. Made up of the Executive Director, the Marketing Director, the Community Liaison, and the Children’s Programs Special Projects Manager, “The Anti-Racism Stewards” lead the organization in efforts to dismantle organizational policies, practices, and cultural norms that contribute to the larger systemic and institutional racism that oppress and marginalize people of color.
