Mission Statement

Zoo New England's mission is to inspire people to protect and sustain the natural world for future generations by creating fun and engaging experiences that integrate wildlife and conservation programs, research, and education.

About This Cause

Zoo New England, an independent non-profit organization, manages Franklin Park and Stone Zoos. The organization’s mission is to inspire people to protect and sustain the natural world for future generations by creating fun and engaging experiences that integrate wildlife and conservation programs, research and education. Franklin Park Zoo, founded in 1912, occupies 72 acres in Boston’s historic Emerald Necklace Park System designed by Fredrick Law Olmsted. Franklin Park Zoo balances dramatic open spaces and natural landscapes with big dynamic exhibits including the indoor Tropical Forest and the sprawling African Savanna. Stone Zoo, founded in 1905, is located on a 26-acre site near the sparkling Spot Pond reservoir in Stoneham. Stone Zoo is designed to offer a more intimate experience than Franklin Park Zoo. Families with small children can get up close to the animals and learn about adaptation and the relationship between humans and the natural world where animals live.
