Mission Statement
Jumpstart advances equitable learning outcomes for young children in underserved communities by recruiting and supporting caring adults to deliver high-quality programming to children and drive systems change through teaching, advocacy, and leadership.
About This Cause
For the last three decades, Jumpstart has been advancing equitable learning outcomes for young children in under-resourced communities by recruiting and supporting college student volunteers, called Corps Members, to deliver high-quality preschool programming to children. Since our founding in 1993, we have trained more than 64,800 college students and community volunteers who have served more than 187,200 preschool children nationwide. Today, from our headquarters in Boston, we operate through 65 higher education partners in 15 states and the District of Columbia. Throughout our history, we have experimented and explored, grown, and changed – always seeking to deepen our impact and drive greater positive change for children. Along the way, we have discovered Jumpstart’s core strengths: our ability to engage and empower college students, the innovative partnerships we cultivate, and a strong but flexible program that supports diverse learners and can adapt to fit a community’s unique assets and needs. Now, we are leaning into these strengths to tackle a growing problem: the ongoing early childhood educator staffing crisis that has left thousands of jobs unfilled across the country. Our goal over the next five years is to train 15,000 students for sustainable early childhood education careers that, in turn, will impact 500,000 children.
