Mission Statement

The Vietnamese American Initiative for Development (VietAID) was founded in 1994 by community leaders and residents who believed that a community development corporation would provide comprehensive economic development programs and services to alleviate poverty and advance civic participation in the Fields Corner Vietnamese community of Dorchester. VietAID’s mission is to build a strong Vietnamese community and a vibrant Fields Corner through the following measures: promoting civic engagement and community building; developing affordable housing and commercial space; providing small business technical assistance and micro-enterprise development; and offering high quality child care services.

About This Cause

VietAID is an anchor organization for the Vietnamese and Fields Corner, Dorchester communities. In 2018, in addition to growing our current programming, we took over a Senior Day program that provides daily space for our elders to build community, maintain fitness, socialize and be civically engaged. This program expands VietAID’s daily reach to several generations, from those ages 2 to 100 years old. As of 2020, VietAID pivoted over to supporting the community in light of the pandemic, providing food services to those who were facing unemployment and difficulties due to COVID-19. VietAID remains at the forefront of offering linguistically and culturally competent services for the surrounding neighborhoods.
