Mission Statement

Camp Belknap is a non-profit traditional overnight summer camp for boys age 8-16 near Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Established in 1903, back in the days of ice houses and horse-drawn carriages, Camp Belknap today flourishes on the shore of New Hampshire’s majestic Lake Winnipesaukee, not only because the concept of summer camp remains evergreen, but because its founders and succeeding generations of directors and leaders have created and continually improved on something special – a felicitous blend of place, tradition, and purpose. The aim, from early on, was to make good boys better. Camp Belknap prides itself on its home-grown leadership program and its motto of “God first, the other fellow second, myself last.” Over the past century, Camp Belknap has served as a source of growth and development for thousands of boys. Leadership development is the focus of Camp Belknap, and its outstanding leadership program is nationally recognized.

About This Cause

It is the mission of Camp Belknap to preserve the unique physical and spiritual environment where young men may forever build strong character, self esteem, individual maturity and community responsibility; to acquire for life the skill of leadership and the value of good stewardship; to honor the history and traditions which are the Belknap experience; and to be a contributing citizen in the community it serves and from which it receives its benefit. The Mission of Belknap has remained consistent for well over 100 years. Character, kindness, and a sense of joy in the world and the people who share it are the hallmarks of the Belknap experience. All of which unfolds in a majestic wooded setting on the shore of an ancient lake. Belknap people are dedicated to the nurturing of young men from school age into young adulthood, committed to the growth of traits and habits in keeping with Camp’s mission. Boys from all walks of life are welcomed into the family and encouraged to explore their gifts and passions, guided on their path by mentors young and old who are committed to their care. The multifarious traditions of Belknap keep the mission alive across the generations. From small moments such as the singing of a favorite Camp song to larger ones like the naming of a new corps of leaders from within the camper ranks, the traditions of Camp Belknap maintain its collective memory for Belknappers past and present to enjoy.
