Discovering Justice: The James D. St.Clair Court Education Project

BOSTON, Massachusetts, 02210-3002 United States

Mission Statement

For over two decades, Discovering Justice has been bringing students and communities together to examine the workings of the justice system, explore the ideals of justice, and prepare to engage as active citizens. We believe in the power of the next generation to sustain our democracy, and we value the belief that the justice system can and should work for everyone.

About This Cause

Founded in 1998 and incorporated as an independent nonprofit in 2001, Discovering Justice is a Boston-based civic and justice education nonprofit organization. We offer innovative in-school, after-school, and courthouse field trip programs that teach elementary and middle school students about the justice system, the role of law in a democratic society, and the fundamental importance of good citizenship. Through our signature program, Children Discovering Justice, we offer K-8 teachers and students flexible literacy-based social studies and civics curriculum across Massachusetts. Children Discovering Justice empowers students to see different viewpoints, respectfully convey their thoughts, stand up for their beliefs, and resolve differences in constructive ways. Discovering Justice also offers experiential learning programs for students which allow them to explore real courtrooms, work with real judges and lawyers, and experience justice in action.
