Mission Statement

Girls for Gender Equity (GGE) works intergenerationally, through a Black feminist lens, to achieve gender and racial justice by centering the leadership of Black girls and gender-expansive young people of color to reshape culture and policy through advocacy, youth-centered programming, and shifting dominant narratives.

About This Cause

GGE's direct service programs: Sisters in Strength(SIS) Healing and trauma-informed program engaging survivors of child sexual abuse, sexual assault and/or other forms of gender-based violence in healing and advocacy. Young Women’s Advisory Council (YWAC) of the NYC Young Women’s Initiative (YWI) Civic engagement program centering the voices of young women of color to use their lived experiences to speak out about injustices they face and provide solutions that would alleviate harm and produce positive change. JustUs Diversion Program for Girls in the Juvenile Legal System A three-year pilot project in partnership with NYC Administration of Children’s Services and STEPS to End Family Violence to serve girls in the criminal, legal and child welfare systems providing gender-responsive programming to system-impacted girls. National Agenda for Black Girls (NABG) A cohort of 50 Black girls, endorsed by 65 organizations serving Black women and girls across the United States to promote Black girls’ visions for the future. National Young Women's Advisory Council (NYWAC) Collaborates with eight local foundations/organizations across the country to train youth in advocacy and organizing. Movement Building including School Girls Deserve, Ending Girls Incarceration and Breaking the Silence campaigns. Advocacy and campaigns work at the city, state and national levels.
