Mission Statement

Our mission is to incubate innovative public health initiatives that lead to improved health for all New Yorkers.

About This Cause

We all benefit from public health. Health makes it possible for us to live, learn, work, and play. The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) works to promote healthy behaviors, educate communities, and combat the spread of infectious diseases. Through these actions, we can reduce inequality and improve the health of all New Yorkers. The FPHNYC was created in 2002 as an independent nonprofit organization with the purpose of connecting the NYC Health Department to private sector partners and the greater philanthropic community. These partnerships enable innovation that make our city healthier and safer for all. With strategic collaboration, we can reduce inequity and achieve better health outcomes for everyone. Our unique model connects experts at the NYC Health Department with private sector and philanthropic partners to pilot innovative initiatives that would otherwise not be possible. These collaborations test out new ideas that, when successful, can be scaled and replicated across the city and around the country. Thanks to our donors, we have raised more than $450 million to support over 350 projects since our founding. FPHNYC supports projects across all areas of public health, with a special focus on two key priority areas in 2020: supporting healthy mothers and babies and fighting epidemics.
