Mission Statement
Community Partners in Action's mission is to build community by providing services that promote accountability, dignity, and restoration for people affected by the criminal justice system. We’re one of the nation’s oldest criminal justice organizations, formerly known as the Connecticut Prison Association, and we provide restorative justice services to young people and adults so they can reenter the community and thrive. We deliver impactful services that unite people, programs and partnerships to: • Empower individuals to change their lives for the better • Make communities safer and stronger • Enhance the quality of life across Connecticut
About This Cause
Change is hard for the people we serve because of the complex issues they face. They deal with poverty and homelessness, as well as gaps in their education and chronic unemployment. Many suffer from debilitating substance abuse, trauma, and mental health disorders. CPA helps people learn to think differently and make better choices. We help address their personal, health, and basic needs. They prepare to become employable, re-engage in their education, and stabilize their families. CPA provides services throughout Connecticut, including the Hartford, Waterbury, Hamden and New Haven, Manchester, Bridgeport, and New London areas, as well as the state prisons and detention centers. Our 19 current programs provide services in four key areas: I. Reentry: When people are newly released from prison, returning home can be overwhelming. We help them address their basic needs and connect to essential services. - -The Greater Hartford and Greater Waterbury Reentry Welcome Centers provide comprehensive services for adults returning home after prison and those with a criminal history already living in the community.
