Mission Statement
Founded in 1910, Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich (BGCG) is one of 4,000 members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which was ranked the number one youth organization for the 21st consecutive year in 2013 by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. Although affiliated with the national organization, Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich is an independent organization with its own board of directors, programs and fund raising responsibilities. Our mission: To enable all the young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
About This Cause
The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich nurtures young peoples' self-esteem by instilling in them a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence. BGCG does this daily by providing young people with a safe after-school environment, strong relationships with caring adult professionals and fun, age-appropriate, well-rounded after-school programming as well as evening/weekend sports leagues and community-wide recreational activities. BGCG reaches an unusually diverse group of families in Greenwich. Of the 1,824 members in 2014 (children ages 6-18): 54% come from households that are considered low-income or below according to HUD standards. At least 25% of our youth live in single-parent households and 30% report eligibility for free or reduced lunch at school. BGCG members are also ethnically diverse: 47% Caucasian; 27% Hispanic; 9% multi-racial; 8% Asian; 6% African American; and 3% “other”. BGCG extends more than $80,000 in waived or reduced tuition for summer camp; awards higher education scholarships of more than $100,000; and keeps membership in the after-school program affordable to all with an annual fee of $35 for Greenwich residents and $135 for children of parents who work in Greenwich. Contributions make all this work possible.
