The Mission of Natchaug Hospital is to provide a continuum of accessible, community-based services for those living with psychiatric illness and chemical dependency, or emotional and related educational disabilities, with a commitment to the dignity and privacy of those needing services, empowering them to participate in their own care and recovery.

About This Cause

Founded in 1954, Natchaug Hospital is Eastern Connecticut's primary provider of psychiatric treatment for children, adolescents and adults. A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and an affiliate of Hartford Healthcare, Natchaug Hospital admits more than 5,000 people each year for treatment in one or more of its programs. In addition to the 57-bed inpatient psychiatric treatment program for children, adolescents and adults, Natchaug operates a ten-site network of partial hospitalization and after-school treatment programs, as well as a 13-bed residential treatment program for girls and a multi-site k-12 special education program. Natchaug Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission, is licensed by the State of Connecticut, and its special education programs are approved by the Bureau of Special Education. Mental health and addiction services provided by Natchaug Hospital include:  Inpatient care for children, adolescents and adults in crisis.  Day hospital programs for children and adolescents at seven Eastern Connecticut locations. Programs include Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, Extended Day Treatment and Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services. These provide three to five hours of therapy five days a week.  Day hospital programs for adults at four Connecticut. Offered in morning and evening sessions, treatment includes Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient and opioid detoxification programs, as well as a Young Adult program to help 18 to 25 year olds. We also have an Older Adult Day program located on the Windham Hospital campus.  Special education programs for seriously emotionally disturbed children and adolescents at seven Eastern Connecticut locations. Referral to this program is through Local Education Authorities.  Medication Assisted Treatment Close to Home (MATCH)  Secured residential treatment for court-involved adolescent girls. This is the only program of its type in Connecticut The continuum of intensive behavioral health services provided by Natchaug is unique within the state of Connecticut, both for its breadth of services and for the geographical accessibility of its services.
