About This Cause
CIP volunteer guardians ad litem (GALs) serve hundreds of abused and neglected children statewide each year. These children find themselves bottlenecked in Connecticut's overburdened child protection system. Many of these children are unable to move out of foster care and into safe, permanent homes without our volunteer advocates speaking up for them. The purpose of our volunteer GAL program is to give an abused or neglected child an independent voice in the child protection system, vociferously advocating for each child's best interests— with allegiance only to the child— unlike any other party involved in their case. Our volunteers monitor the child's safety and ongoing needs, ushering them through the maze of laws and procedures that too often impede the timely execution of permanency.
