Mission Statement

Greater New Britain Teen Pregnancy Prevention was established in 1993 with a mission to eliminate teen pregnancy by addressing its root causes, assuring high school graduation, and promoting adult self-sufficiency by providing long-term, comprehensive, holistic services through creating a parallel family structure with New Britain youth and parents.

About This Cause

The program includes 7 interdisciplinary components to meet our mission: Academic Assistance, Violence Prevention, Career Exploration, Family Life with Sex Education, Youth Leadership Development through sports and recreation, Self-esteem with creative arts, and Financial Literacy. Full time staff and part time tutors as well as volunteers provide homework help daily, monitor school performance and ensure that each participant complete at least two hours of academics each week. They are exposed to higher education opportunities through visitation to local colleges. Violence and victimization issues are resolved by promoting peace at home, school, our Center and the Community. Small groups meet often to discuss family health and sex education. Visitation from professionals present different career options. Sports, recreation, and art projects are offered throughout the year to encourage participants to take on leadership roles and build self esteem though their unique forms of expression. Financial literacy classes develop skills to be used for the rest of their life.
