Mission Statement

Klingberg Family Centers’ Mission: to Help Build Healing Relationships That Empower Children and Families To Reach Their Full Potential.

About This Cause

Founded in 1903, Klingberg Family Centers originally served as a “Children’s Home” for boys and girls who were orphaned, abandoned or whose families were unable to care for them due to economic, social, or medical hardships. Today, Klingberg Family Centers is a private, non-profit agency providing a comprehensive range of services to thousands of persons across Connecticut each year. Our goal is to extend hope and healing to children and families whose lives have been impacted by trauma in its various forms; such as family conflict; social, economic, and life challenges; and mental health issues. Through an array of programs, including group care, special education, foster care, and community programs, children and parents are given the encouragement and skills they need to function more effectively at home, in school, and in their communities. In addition, we provide professional training and child sex abuse primary prevention nationally. Our main campus is located in New Britain, Connecticut, and and we also offer Community Services from offices in Hartford. Our programs include: - Raymond Hill Special Education School (ages 6-18) - Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoption, including the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program  - Outpatient Counseling and Family Therapy Institute  - Webster House for medically fragile adolescents (ages 12-18) - Extended Day Treatment –Therapeutic Afterschool Program (ages 5-12) - Intensive Family Preservation Services - Parent Support Services  - Traumatic Stress Institute, offering trauma-informed care training  - Child Abuse Treatment Services - Access & Visitation Program Children and families are engaged in the planning process for their treatment through goal setting, the treatment review process, regular contacts between families and our therapists, child development specialists and educators, and client satisfaction surveys. We collaborate with both the Department of Children and Families and numerous human service organizations to assure that the children and families we serve have access to the most comprehensive, effective care available. This is very important in regards to our Community Services programs which connect clients with services to sustain their progress. Klingberg Family Centers is accredited by the Joint Commission. We are considered a leader in the field of serving children and families traumatized by abuse and neglect, and offer training and expertise to other human service professionals around the country through the Traumatic Stress Institute. All of our staff members are trained in both Risking Connection® and the Restorative Approach™. Risking Connection® is foundational training which helps staff understand trauma, the lasting results of trauma and attachment disruptions, and how people heal through relationships. The Restorative Approach™ provides a practical application for these principles in treatment settings. Together, these methods help create a more healing environment, and a more meaningful experience for children and treatment providers. Klingberg Family Centers operates under a Board of Trustees representing expertise and experience from a variety of areas. Trustees donate their time and wisdom to help shape the policies that guide the management of the agency. The President/CEO reports to the Executive Committee of the Board. Vice Presidents, Directors and Coordinators oversee various program areas.
