Mission Statement

EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) is redefining student achievement in diverse communities across the country. Our mission is to create classrooms where teachers can fulfill their highest aspirations, and students achieve more than they think possible, becoming active contributors to building a better world. When students and teachers are engaged in work that is challenging, adventurous and meaningful, learning and achievement flourish.

About This Cause

EL Education is a national K–12 nonprofit focused on disrupting educational inequities in public schools nationwide. Our research-based approach centers rigorous academics and positive character development within inclusive environments that nurture belonging, positive identity and relationships. Created nearly 30 years ago through the collaboration of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Outward Bound, EL Education is transforming education in thousands of schools and districts across the country. We work with all kinds of schools: district and charter, from pre-K through 12th grade, serving populations that reflect the diversity of our country. We create powerful instructional resources and provide masterful coaching and professional development. Our tools include the top-rated EL Education K–8 Language Arts Curriculum, a comprehensive, standards-based, core literacy program proven to significantly improve teacher practice and student outcomes when paired with high-quality curriculum-based professional learning for teachers. Our Reach: EL Education partners with schools and districts across 35 states, providing nearly one million students with access to a proven instructional approach and our evidenced-based, best-in-class Language Arts curriculum. Students’ impressive results encompass high academic achievement and college readiness, pride in the mastery of complex, authentic work, and a passion and capacity to contribute to a better world.
