The Granby Education Foundation (GEF) is a nonprofit organization that nourishes educational excellence by raising private funds in support of innovative educational initiatives for people of all ages in Granby and surrounding towns.
About This Cause
About Us The Granby Education Foundation (GEF) is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization, founded in 2000, that supports innovative educational opportunities and art initiatives. The idea of the foundation was started by a small group of like minded citizens who saw the need to establish a funding mechanism to support initiatives (big and small) that advanced the arts and continual learning for all the residents of Granby. During the twenty plus years the GEF has existed, the GEF has become a community asset woven into the town’s fabric. The GEF has provided funding for substantial initiatives such as the Salmon Brook Ecology Center located on the High School campus or supporting the arts with the purchase of string instruments to begin a string music instructional program in the school district. The GEF has underwritten programs keeping the arts alive and well here in town such as The Bruce Porter Memorial Music Series. The Board is made up a community volunteers with a desire to further the GEF mission. As a volunteer you can work with the GEF in multiple ways. You can be Friend of the GEF, which partakes in supporting various GEF activities. Or, you can be a Board member directly involved with the GEF direction, grant giving, fund raising or marketing. All 501(C)(3) organizations, as well as the Granby School District, are eligible for funding through the GEF. We look for educational and arts initiatives that: • are innovative • result in richer and deeper learning experiences • lie outside the scope of existing budgets Our Purpose The GEF works to foster innovative educational opportunities and art initiatives for residents of all ages by: • Increasing community involvement • Expanding the capabilities of area educators • Encouraging creativity in teaching and the arts • Stimulating an interest in lifelong learning
