About This Cause
McLean is a non-profit organization founded in 1971 by the Will of former Connecticut Senator and Governor George P. McLean. In nearly fifty years, McLean has grown and evolved from a small nursing home for seniors with health needs to a multi-faceted community resource, offering a wide range of services to those living at the facility as well as those from surrounding communities. These services focus on filling gaps in the health and social service needs of seniors, from housing and health care to home meal delivery and wellness. Located in Simsbury, Connecticut, McLean is dedicated to providing a continuum of high-quality, cost-effective health, housing and community services for older adults and persons with disabilities or chronic illnesses. The McLean Health Center provides inpatient sub-acute, hospice, palliative and long-term care. Health Center-based services include inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, supported living, therapeutic recreation, adult day health care, special care neighborhoods for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related illnesses, and a wellness center with a wide range of programs. Community-based services include home health care, hospice care, Meals on Wheels, and the Sorenson Smart House for adaptive equipment, among other services and outreach. Ninety percent of McLean’s residents and patients are elderly—between 65 and 104 years of age. Many of these individuals are desperately in need of assistance due to high levels of care and services required and the gaps in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.
