About This Cause
Pronto of Long Island's mission is to feed the hungry, clothe the needy, welcome the stranger, and provide healing and hope to everyone who walks through our doors. Originally established under the direction of St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Pronto now operates as a nonsectarian private 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Since 1969, Pronto has been known as a trusted outreach center for people in need living in the Brentwood, Bay Shore, Central Islip areas and neighboring communities in Suffolk County. The hub of our organization is our intake department. Our intake workers help individuals and families assess their immediate needs and obtain the appropriate community resources they need such as legal advice, immigration services and social service benefits. In collaboration with our partners Pronto also provides onsite Health/Medicare insurance assistance, Immunizations, ESL and Citizenship classes - services that help to enhance health and wellness and improve the quality of life. Recently, we introduced a new summer program entitled Farm to Table. This program engages youth in STEM enrichment activities for six weeks as they learn about nutrition, agriculture, and some life skills. Pronto also continues to support needy families with back to school backpacks, Thanksgiving Food Baskets and Christmas toys. Pronto is operating out of a 10,500-square-foot building that includes a large pantry, full size Thrift Center and our warehouse area where we collect and distribute donations, furniture and other household items. Our facility also has three large classrooms, a computer room, conference room and offices for our client services and community partners. In March 2024 we were able to purchase a refrigerated box truck to help preserve fresh produce and vegetables picked up from local supermarket donations.
