Mission Statement

Chickpeas’ vision is to foster a community and learning environment where children and staff foster curiosity, empathy, and a deep love for learning and social justice. Our single mixed age, inclusive classroom serves 3-K and Pre-K children who display a wide range of developmental abilities. This unique programming helps to normalize differences, decrease social hierarchies, and promote a positive self-concept for all children. Chickpeas uses a play-based, child-centered approach in our curriculum and instruction. Our dedicated teachers create units of study that emerge from observing the children’s play themes and listening to their questions and conversations. We emphasize social and emotional development and use an anti-bias framework to talk and teach about identity, diversity, social justice, and empowerment. Chickpeas provides a safe, nurturing environment for children to take risks, practice compassion, and reach their full potential.
