About This Cause

COMMONPOINT: Dedicated to the well-being of all people in our community. MISSION: Commonpoint is dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the quality of individual, family, and communal life throughout New York City through services to people of all ages, ability levels, stages of life, and backgrounds. WHO WE ARE: In 2018, two agencies, the Samuel Field YM&YWHA, founded in 1964, and the Central Queens YM&YWHA, providing services since 1973, merged into a single, streamlined entity named Commonpoint Queens. Commonpoint was founded to meet the evolving needs of our community, which we continue to do today. Over the decades, we have evolved and grown to 80+ sites, each designed to be a “commonpoint” for the myriad populations of New York City’s most diverse borough, Queens, to come together. Over the course of a single lifetime, we all go through moments of crisis, times of stability, and stages of growth. We need support systems to navigate these different phases in life, and you can find the programs and resources you need in one place: Commonpoint Queens. Commonpoint is the place for early childhood programs, summer camps, senior services, mental health resources, support during crisis, wellness, and everything in between. WHAT WE DO: We offer dozens of programs that improve the lives of more than 85,000 people annually. Support to Stability: Connecting families to the resources they need to achieve long-term financial stability while addressing immediate concerns of food insecurity and other vital necessities— because no one should ever go to bed hungry or worry if they can afford rent. High School and College Success: Preparing students with a range of social and academic support programs, job readiness, all aspects of the college admissions process, counseling, career exploration opportunities, and paid work experience—because all of our future leaders deserve to thrive. Silver Employment Hub and Youth Opportunity Hub: Providing workforce development services, including a range of vocational training programs, work readiness coaching, job placement, and work support programs, including benefits assistance and financial counseling— because everyone should be able to pursue meaningful and successful work. Education: From early childhood to school-aged youth to seniors—because people of all ages should be able to develop and flourish intellectually throughout their lives. Refugee Resettlement and Integration: Providing initial resettlement, case management, ENL classes, employment counseling, job placement, career, and other vocational training services. Health and Wellness: Community-based physical and mental health programs. Social and Recreational: From summer camps to cultural events—designed to foster learning, self-expression, and community for people of all ages.
