Mission Statement
Founded in 1910, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (CEIP) is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing international peace by leveraging its global network to shape debates and provide decision-makers with independent insights and innovative ideas on the most consequential global threats and opportunities. Its work is nonpartisan and dedicated to achieving practical results. The Carnegie Endowment is the first truly global think tank with centers in China, the Middle East, Russia, Europe, India, and the United States. The Carnegie Endowment is supervised by an international board of trustees and its research activities are overseen by a global management group. Our 140 thinkers and doers from diverse disciplines and perspectives are spread across more than twenty countries and six global centers. More than two-thirds of its current scholars were born outside the United States, nearly all speak languages other than their native tongues, and most have had policy experience. CEIP has websites in Arabic, Chinese, English, and Russian. Together, Carnegie’s scholars are focused on the significant drivers shaping an emerging global order where CEIP’s global platform has the most to offer: disorder, technology, geoeconomics, and governance. CEIP conducts work in the following program areas through efforts in all of its global centers: Asia-Pacific; Europe; Middle East; Russia and Eurasia; Democracy, Conflict, and Governance; Geoeconomics and Strategy; Nuclear Policy; and Technology and International Affairs. In an increasingly crowded, chaotic, and contested world and marketplace of ideas, the Carnegie Endowment aspires to offer decisionmakers global, independent, and strategic insight and innovative ideas that advance international peace.
