Mission Statement
EngenderHealth is a leading global women’s health organization committed to ensuring that every pregnancy is planned, every child is wanted, and every mother has the best chance at survival. Our mission is to implement high-quality, gender-equitable programs that advance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). In countries around the world, we train health care professionals and partner with governments and communities to make high-quality family planning and sexual and reproductive health services available—today and for generations to come.
About This Cause
EngenderHealth works to improve the health and well-being of people in low- and middle-income countries. We do this by sharing our expertise in sexual and reproductive health and transforming the quality of health care. We promote gender equity, advocate for sound practices and policies, and inspire people to assert their rights to better, healthier lives. Working in partnership with local organizations, health systems, and health care providers, we adapt our work to respond to local needs. Our programming builds on the lessons learned and best practices gained through half a century of experience working in more than 100 countries around the world to support individuals, communities, and healthcare systems in delivering high-quality, gender-equitable programs and services that advance sexual and reproductive health and rights. Today, we are implementing programs in 13 countries across Asia and Africa. In our 2019-2020 program year, EngenderHealth’s SRHR work had the following impact: 19,580 healthcare providers were trained 2.5 million people received their chosen method of contraception 851,000 people were directly educated on SRHR (in addition to those reached through mass media) 125,940 clients were reached with comprehensive abortion care / postabortion care services 1.15 million unsafe abortions were averted 4,700 maternal deaths were averted 4.2 million unintended pregnancies were averted $276,000,000 in direct healthcare costs were saved
